More About...

The "Other" New York

Day 1. Arrive in Brooklyn, New York. Begin your adventure by taking a short walk through Prospect Park. This 526 acre park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1867 after their completion of Central Park in Manhattan. Go on from here to the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Take a guided tour of its noted collections of ancient Egyptian art as well as the works of American artists Georgia O’Keeffe, John Singer Sargent and George Bellows. Walk from there to the Japanese Garden of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. View their large collection of flowering cherry trees and flowering bulbs. Have dinner at an ethnic restaurant and then go on to the Brooklyn Academy of Music to take in a pre- Broadway show. Check in to your hotel.

Day 2. Start the day by walking across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge for some of the best views of Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan. Go on to explore Brooklyn Bridge Park. Walk along the Brooklyn side of the East River. Be sure to take your camera. Go on to discover the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgas”burg” where you will find artisanal food vendors along with local and regional crafts. After lunch tour DUMBO—Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass. This area is one of New York’s premier arts districts with a mix of for-profit and non-profit galleries open to the public. DUMBO is also considered New York City’s tech hub, with over 500 tech and creative firms employing over 10,000 people.

Day 3. Extend your visit with an extra day and overnight. You could take more time to explore the hands-on opportunities offered by DUMBO. Take a trip on the Staten Island Ferry, visit Coney Island or take an in depth tour of American Art at the Brooklyn Museum.
